Bast - Originally a lion Goddess of sunset, later depicted as a cat carrying the sun, Bast was worshipped throughout Egypt ruling pleasure and dancing, music and joy. The city of Bubastis was her focal place of worship where she was said to bestow her followers with mental and physical health. Live cats were cherished in her honour and when they died, mummified and buried in the cities vast cat cemetery.
